IMSU Portal – Terms of Use

1) Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the IMSU Portal (“Portal”), you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”) and all applicable University policies (including the Site Policy, Privacy Notice, and Disclaimer). If you do not agree, do not use the Portal.

2) Eligibility & Accounts
  • The Portal is intended for authorized users (e.g., students, staff, alumni, designated partners).
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activities under your account.
  • Notify IMSU ICT immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
3) Permitted Use

You may use the Portal only for lawful, University-related purposes. You agree not to:

  • Bypass or disable security features; probe, scan, or test system vulnerabilities.
  • Introduce malware, attempt denial-of-service, or interfere with normal operations.
  • Misrepresent identity or access data you are not authorized to view.
  • Upload or transmit unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, or infringing content.
4) User Content & University Records
  • Information you submit (e.g., forms, uploads, requests) must be accurate and lawful.
  • You retain rights in your original content; you grant IMSU a limited, non-exclusive license to use such content to operate the Portal and provide University services.
  • Official academic and administrative records are maintained per University policy and law; the Portal is a conduit, not the legal record of every transaction unless explicitly stated.
5) Privacy & Data Protection
  • IMSU processes personal data in line with applicable laws, including the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).
  • See the Portal Privacy Notice for details on what we collect, why, and your rights.
  • Some data may be shared internally with authorized departments for legitimate academic/administrative purposes.
6) Security

IMSU uses reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the Portal. However, no system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for using secure devices, logging out after use, and safeguarding your credentials.

7) Availability & Changes to the Service
  • The Portal may be unavailable due to maintenance, upgrades, or circumstances beyond IMSU’s control.
  • IMSU may modify or discontinue features at any time to improve services or meet legal/operational requirements.
8) Third-Party Links & Tools

The Portal may link to third-party websites or tools. IMSU is not responsible for their content, security, or privacy practices. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.

9) Intellectual Property
  • All IMSU logos, marks, designs, software, and content on the Portal are owned by or licensed to IMSU and protected by law.
  • Except as expressly permitted, you may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from Portal content.
10) Communications

By using the Portal, you consent to receive service and transactional communications (e.g., alerts, notices) via the contact details associated with your account, subject to applicable law and University policy.

11) Prohibited Conduct (Illustrative)
  • Share credentials or allow account sharing.
  • Harvest data or perform automated scraping without written authorization.
  • Post or transmit content that is unlawful, harassing, threatening, or violates others’ rights.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with IMSU.
12) Disclaimer of Warranties

The Portal is provided “as is” and “as available.” IMSU disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. Users should verify critical information with the relevant department.

13) Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, IMSU shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or profits arising from your use or inability to use the Portal.

14) Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless IMSU, its officers, employees, and agents from claims or losses arising out of your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Portal.

15) Suspension & Termination

IMSU may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, suspected fraud, security risks, or legal/regulatory reasons. On termination, your right to use the Portal ceases immediately.

16) Changes to These Terms

IMSU may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on the Portal. Your continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

17) Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Disputes shall first be addressed through good-faith internal resolution with IMSU; if unresolved, they may be referred to the competent courts in Imo State, Nigeria.
