The Bachelor of Science degree programme in Management Studies in the Faculty of Management Sciences, Imo State University, Owerri, was established in 1995 with an initial intake of 63 students and a staff strength of Nine(9). Presently, in the 2010/2011 academic Session, the programme has a total population of about 671 students, 243 in four hundred Level, 138 in three hundred level and about 211 in one hundred Level with a staff strength of about 35. A key part of the mission of management discipline in Imo State University is the continuous creation, articulation, inculcation and dissemination of sound and relevant knowledge about management and organizations in dynamic environment.

Management Studies encompassing all processes, structures and behaviours that are related to work of organizations, as well as the dynamics of industries, economies, cultures, and other environmental forces that effect organizations and their employees. A major objective of our degree programme is to educate and train, sound, ethically conscious, broad based managers equipped with relevant skills and knowledge that would enable them manage any given organization effectively and efficiently. The need for sound management knowledge and application is increasingly becoming a need for all types of organizations, both profit and non-profit, formal and informal. The success or failure of organizations depends largely on the quality of the management. It would be disadvantageous for any organization to use a management team that is not made up of qualified management personnel capable of adopting and edge management techniques. The department of management therefore strives to produce effective and efficient managers for all types of organizations, hat would contribute to national development and growth, since the quality, competitiveness, image and dynamism of a country does not really depend on Her mineral wealth and resources but on the skills needed to manage them.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirement for the Bachelor of Science in Management Studies is five relevant credits which includes English language, Mathematics and Economics from any of the following: 1. Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). 2. National Examination Council (NECO). 3. General Certification Education (GCE) at no more than to sittings. In addition, a candidate must obtain a good score in The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Examination and any additional screening that may be required by the University.



Faculty of Management Sciences shall house the most responsible and competent lecturers and provide highly knowledgeable and responsible students who will offer value to the society.


Faculty of Management Sciences shall strive to inculcate in the staff and students the highest ideals of academic excellence and ethical standards worthy of emulation.
